Let me offer you something on life and the martial arts. The martial arts and life are vaguely connected, after all.

Have you noticed that time drags when you have to do something unpleasant, and it speeds up when youre having fun?

Shouldnt it be the other way around? Time should slow when you enjoy yourself, so you can enjoy yourself longer, and should speed up when you have something unpleasant to do, so you can get it done, and get through with it, faster.

I noticed, after a few zillion punches, that time changed when I punched. It was like when I punched my personal universe became more real than the regular universe we wallow around, and my universe, my time, overrode the regular universe, the time which measures the regular universe.

What is happening here is that time is a commodity, and it can be measured.

Pass a ruler in front of your eyes slowly, Watch the inches pass.

Pass the ruler in front of your eyes fast, the ruler moved faster, it took less time, and thereforetime is faster.

Simple, eh?

Time, you see, is a measurement of distance.

So, when you are doing the martial arts when you are thrusting a fist forward, or a foot, or otherwise moving your body, you are covering distance, which can be looked at as measuring distance.

So after you have thrown a zillion punches, you have looked at all the inches on your arm, and time seems to go a little slower.

Youve looked enough, there are no skipped inches Skipped Inches, of course, would be where you werent looking, where you werent aware.

And here comes a purpose of the martial arts that aligns perfectly with life.

Do the martial arts to become more aware.

Or, pardon the grin, do the martial arts so that you arent stupid and dont become stupid.

The secret is to do the martial arts with an eye to seeing what you are doing, this by measuring time, by watching distance pass.

And this is how you grow awareness with the martial arts.

punching the universe may be cathartic but seems futile;your arms are too short to box with God!
