One day two young actors had an appointment with a major producer in Hollywood. The two young actors were named Burt Reynolds and clint Eastwood.

They met with the producer, gave their resumes, chatted for a while, and then the producer smiled politely, and gave them his honest opinion about their chances in Hollywood.

“You, Mr. Reynolds, unfortunately, can’t act. I’m sorry to say that you will never be able to make it in this town."

Mr. Reynolds didn’t say anything.

“And you, Mr. Eastwood, you will never make it in Hollywood because your Adam’s apple is too protruding."

And the two actors were dismissed.

On the street, Burt turned to Clint and grinned. “I can learn to act, but you’re out of luck."

Burt Reynolds starred in two TV series, and made around a hundred movies (screen credits on the IMDB are lengthy).

Clint Eastwood became a TV star, made 67 movies, turned westerns inside out with such classics as Josey Wales, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, created the character of Dirty Harry, and won the Academy award for what is arguably the best western ever made...Unforgiven.

These two fellows were told they couldn’t make it, and they turned that ‘can’t’ into one of the wildest success stories imaginable.

Oddly, I don’t think of these two fellows when somebody tells me I can’t do something. I think of the producer who told them they couldn’t, and that makes me laugh.

Al Case loves the martial arts and writing. He is a good enough natured fellow, unless you start talking about the government (grrr). He has a 115 pound chocolate lab that sits on him, and his website is AlCaseBooks.com.

Thanks, Jennifer. I always wonder at what point in his life that producer put his face in his hands and cried. Heh.

al,
got it!
you might think about putting this story on billboards.
it would be of great value for many to understand the formula of success.
first, it is not a dirty word.
some think if someone is successful they are doing something wrong-so, they don't try.
some think if someone is successful they are doing something right-they become inspired. try and usually succeed-but it is very, very hard work.
any more stories in your pocket like this al, bring 'em on-there are many who need the inspiration.

Thanks, Bing. You know, this is a wonderful world, and the only thing that could improve it would be if we could tell the people who say that we can't that they can't say we can't anymore. Grin.
