Various headlines proclaim, ‘ObamaCare is going to ruin the country! It’s going to ruin healthcare!’

Now, I used to be confused by healthcare, but over the years I have encountered various medical bills. Let me tell you of the latest one, and illuminate the healthcare--ObamaCare--fiasco.

My son stepped on a nail the other day. It was a holiday, so he went to the county hospital for a tetanus shot and an x ray. Not sure why the x ray, but, in spite of the tone of this article, I generally trust doctors.

He received a copy of the bill, which was paid by the state. The total amount was around $2200.

Blink.

A $10 tetanus shot and a $25 x-ray. Do the math. Somebody just made $2165 profit. Hmmm.

Now, who really pays the bill? And who made the profit?

The bill is paid by the state/national government, which means the taxpayers just paid somebody $2165 profit.

At this point, some fellow in Albuquerque is grumbling about death and taxes, and thinking about how hospitals are ripping us off.

Nope.

Does anybody remember the HMO push of the nineties? That was a period when these big corporations went around and bought up hospitals. Nobody cared, the bills stayed low, and there were even media articles about how consolidating health services was going to save money.

Well, now that everybody has forgotten, the corporations are pushing for profit. They charge the patient $35 for a tetanus shot and an x ray, and then they bill the government $2165.

The government, a maze of bureaucracy and corruption, cheerfully hands over money that they cheerfully take from the citizens. You. Me. Anybody who works.

Now, at this point some fool in Albuquerque is thinking, ‘Oh, that’s only $2000. We can afford that.

Did I tell you about the time my son fell off his motorcycle and broke his legs? He was covered by the public dime to the tune of $300,000. The doctor charged him $500. Somebody just made $299,500. Oops.

Now, to be honest, there was much more involved in this accident. He did spend time in emergency care, he had a team working on him, and actual cost was probably $20,000. So somebody really only made $280,000.

Now, if he didn’t have insurance, and there was no state care, my son would have had a bill for $20,000, and he would have paid it. Take a few years, but he would have paid it, and any interest. That’s just the kind of people the American people are.

But, the times, they are a changin’. Now there is big bucks to be made out of state health care, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to rein in this financial juggernaut.

To be honest, I like the idea of state health care.

But I don’t like the idea of giant corporations milking the public to the tune of billions. I don’t like the idea of a president that is hand in glove with giant medical corporations, drug companies, and the like, and selling us insurance that is overpriced and compulsory.

I don’t like the idea of giant corporations, who have no allegiance to any country pilfering tax dollars so they can push wars, disease, and corruption upon the face of the planet.

And that is why I don’t like Obamacare.
